GARDEN BLOCK SWAP
5' X 5'
Personal collection
2007

This quilt was made by assembling blocks made by 8 European women and 8 Oregon women.  Our theme was THE GARDEN.  Each participant made 16 of the same blocks, and then we swapped.  Each participant ended up with 16 different blocks, and then had to solve the dilemma of what to do with the numerous blocks.  This is my solution.  The basket in the center contains 'seed packets'.  Each participant provided a label, giving the information about herself and her block.  I placed each of the labels on a 'seed packet' and put them into the basket.  It was the third in a series of block swaps arranged by myself and my Jeserig, Germany, friend, Katrin Klose.

JAPANESE MEMORIES
6' X 2.5'
2008
Personal Collection

The 12 motifs in this wallhanging were given to me by my host family, when I was in Japan for a Teaching Fellowship.  I had them for quite a while before I decided what to do with them.  Every day I pass by this quilt and recall my amazing stay in Japan.  I long to return and continue exploring this wonderful country and all it has to offer.

THE WINERY

This is the beginnings of the kaleidoscope quilt shown finished elsewhere on this blog.  http://arrasheiress.blogspot.com/2010/04/clever-vintage.html
Each is a octagon, the corners of which are finished with a triangle that makes each truly a square block.
